First Edition, signed by author. Very clean, unfaded rust brown cloth boards with black lettering on cover and spine. Binding is tight & square, pages are clean. Clean beautifully color illustrated endpapers. INSCRIBED AND SIGNED by author with date on title page: "For Martha and Moses with warmest personal regards - Sincerely, Roi Ottley 5/49". Dustjacket is clean and bright with some age-toning to rear panel, is not price clipped, has small chips at spine edges and top corner tips, a few short closed edge tears. Enclosed in new archival quality mylar cover. A scarce and important book on African American life in the United States.
