Early printing in original jacket, signed by the author. Clean unfaded blue cloth boards with bright, unchipped paper title labels on cover and spine. No bumping or fraying; mere hint of lightest surface wear to corners. Binding is tight & square, no cracking. Pages and edges are clean. Inscribed and signed by the author on front free endpaper: "To Miss Lida A. Tulton - Very Sincerely, Beverley Nichols - 1927". Copyright date 1927 on copyright page, with no additional printings listed - lacking GHD symbol. Dustjacket is clean (a few very tiny faint spots and light age-toning); corner clipped at top of front inside flap; very shallow chipping at top and bottom spine edge.
