Bindings are tight & square, no cracking. Pages and edges are clean, with gilt top page edges. Clean endpapers; no names, writing or bookplates. Frontis illustration in each volume with clean printed tissue guard. Beautiful illustrations throughout both volumes with photographs of chateaux in France and their people. Volume I - 326 pages with index, fold-out geneology chart (chart nearly separated at one fold). Volume 2 - 314 pages with index and fold-out map near rear of book (Map of the Valley of the Loire for "Old Touraine" from the French Government Ordnance Survey in perfect condition). Both dust jackets are in excellent condition, of dark blue stiff cloth with gold decoration and lettering on spine, no tears, fading or chips. 023327
