First Edition, SIGNED by the author, in original unclipped dust jacket. Clean blue cloth boards with line-drawing illustration of author on cover, dark blue lettering on spine. No fraying or wear. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound. Inscribed and signed by author on front free endpaper: "To Hildegard, From your Mother - and with the very best personal wishes of another "Grosse Pointer" a great admirer of both your Dad and Mother - H.C.L. Jackson - Christmas, 1949." 214 pages. Dust jacket has some edge chipping and short closed edge tears, quite clean, not price clipped. Enclosed in new archival quality removable mylar cover. What Ernie Pyle did for the common soldier in World War II, Detroit news columnist H.C.L. Jackson did every day for the common people, seeing the sunny side, the human side, of our better natures, and reported what he saw and heard with genuine charm.
