"First Printing, 1956" stated on copyright page, in clean unclipped jacket. Clean blue boards (slight fading to edges) with clean black cloth spine, silver, gold and blue lettering on spine. No fraying or wear. Binding is tight & square, no cracking. Pages and edges are clean, with clean endpapers; no names, writing or marks. 726 pages. Clean dust jacket is unchipped, unclipped (4.95 on front inside flap), has slight browning to spine. Enclosed in new archival quality removable mylar cover. An historical novel of love, fate and conquest in Napoleon's Egypt. In October, 1797, Remi Saint-Victor had served just four years of his sentence, "Solitary confinement for the rest of his natural life." After a miraculous release from prison, he returns to France, resuming his career of undisputed genius as a chemist.
