"First Edition" stated on copyright page, in original unclipped jacket. Dark blue cloth boards with circular lavender title box, gold lettering on spine. Hint of very light soiling and corner wear. Binding is tight & square, no cracking; pages and edges are clean. Clean endpapers; no names, writing or marks. Translated by Nicholas Wreden. 512 pages. Dustjacket is not price clipped (3.95 on front inside flap), has small edge & corner chips, short closed edge tears, light soiling to rear panel. Enclosed in new archival quality removable mylar cover. A Russian novel, set in the time period after World War II, moving from Nice to Paris to a Trans-Atlantic ocean liner and on to New York. Its pages are alive with vibrant characters: Nadia, an ambitious Russian girl who aspires to be a Hollywood actress; Dummler, a liberal philosopher; Pembroke, a kind but shrewd motion picture producer. 021523
