Stated First Edition, Association copy, Inscribed and SIGNED by the author, in unclipped dust jacket. Clean unfaded charcoal and black cloth boards, silver lettering on spine. Several tiny closed tears to cloth at base of spine. Binding is tight and square, hinges are sound - no cracking. Pages and edges are clean. Clean map-illustrated endpapers. Inscribed and signed by author on back of half-title page as follows: "For Violet & Shelly, with whom we have shared many views--rivers, music, books, countries, people -- with love, BJ - Elizabeth Warnock Fernea - Dec 15, 1970 Austin, Texas." 320 pages. Dust jacket has some age-toning, is not price clipped, chipping and closed tears at top and bottom spine edges; nice photo and brief biography of author on rear panel. The author's fascinating story of living six years in Egypt with her family, during which time Dr. Fernea directed the Nubian Ethnological Survey, recording the culture of 50,000 Nubians who were resettled following the flooding of their ancient region by the waters of the Aswan Dam.
