Red cloth boards with black lettering and decoration on cover, gold lettering and small black decoration on spine, blind stamped title and decoration on rear cover board. A few tiny spots of wear at base of spine, very light soiling. Binding is tight, no cracking; slight lean. Slight fading to spine. Pale green endpapers, with previous owner name and date (Nov. 5, 1880) neatly penned on front free endpaper. 361 pages + 4 pages of publisher's advertising at rear of book. A story of the reconstruction period in the South after the U.S. Civil War, with references to the Ku Klux Klan.
