First Edition decorated American trade binding (signed binding - BS monogram on cover - F. Berkeley Smith). Clean blue cloth boards has one small faint spot to cover (smaller than a dime). Decorated in gold, red, and white on cover with black and white lettering (unchipped). Gold lettering and decoration on spine. No fraying or fading; binding is tight and square, hinges are sound - no cracking. Pages and edges are clean, with clean blank endpapers. No names, writing or bookplates. Published in May, 1903. Beautiful color frontispiece illustration by "Michael" with clean printed tissue guard. Illustrated title page in one color (red) and black, with red and black lettering. Illustrations by the author and other artists, many in color with printed tissue guards. 334 pages.
